Working with Linux

A simple transition from Windows XP Pro to Linux is everything but as most programs that work on Windows XP Pro will not work on a Linux OS. Some windows Programs will work if you install Wine which is basically a virtual Windows OS and creates partitions at the end of the alphabet on your existing hard drive. If you want your drivers to work you have to have a large enough hard drive to have both windows and any Linux OS (my choice is Xubuntu) . When you have an older computer like my HP nc8000 Notebook the drivers are only available with or for a Windows OS and are not recognized by Xubuntu or other Linux OS systems. This is where the work comes into play as I can not get my cd-rom player to work even though it is recognized the drivers are not. I have installed Wine, Wine Tricks and QT4 which allows some windows OS programs to work but the most important don't like the available drivers from Hewlet Packard.
