Working with Linux
A simple transition from Windows XP Pro to Linux is everything but as most programs that work on Windows XP Pro will not work on a Linux OS. Some windows Programs will work if you install Wine which is basically a virtual Windows OS and creates partitions at the end of the alphabet on your existing hard drive. If you want your drivers to work you have to have a large enough hard drive to have both windows and any Linux OS (my choice is Xubuntu) .
When you have an older computer like my HP nc8000 Notebook the drivers are only available with or for a Windows OS and are not recognized by Xubuntu or other Linux OS systems. This is where the work comes into play as I can not get my cd-rom player to work even though it is recognized the drivers are not. I have installed Wine, Wine Tricks and QT4 which allows some windows OS programs to work but the most important don't like the available drivers from Hewlet Packard. Any help with these problems would be appreciated and you can contact me via email @ activelid@gmail.com.
